Eyelid Surgery At TVLC

The eyes are the first place people look when they greet you. Unfortunately, as we age, the sun, time, and our genetic patterns can cause us to look older than we actually are. These age-related changes can be most prominent around the eyes, giving us a tired and aged look. In some instances you may have noticed that your eyelids are drooping so severely that they actually hinder your vision or cause eyestrain or headaches. These are common problems that affect millions of men and women every day, and may make you feel less confident about who you are and the way you look.

FAQ Eyelid Surgery

What is blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty is the technical term for eyelid surgery. As we get older, the eyelids can begin to droop and fill with fat. When this happens, it can make you appear a bit older and more tired. It can also reduce your range of vision, especially at the far edges and top of your visual field.

How long does the surgery take?

At TVLC we perform our eyelid surgeries on an outpatient basis at an ambulatory surgery center. The surgery normally takes about two hours, but can take longer in some more severe cases.

How long is the recovery period?

As an outpatient surgery, you will be discharged soon as the anesthetic has worn off, and it has been determined that it is safe for you to return home. Recovery times can vary from patient to patient. In general, your stitches, if not self-dissolving, will be removed after 10 days (VERIFY THIS TO BE THE CASE WITH JB) . Each person heals at different rates and there is no way to accurately predict that, however, in most cases you should be fully healed in about a month. Please note, as with most surgical procedures there will be some visible bruising around the surgery site that will go away on its own.

Botox

Botox is an injectable drug that physicians have been using for decades to reduce the appearance of wrinkles or asymmetric eyebrows or eyelids. The carefully placed injection essentially paralyzes the muscle affected temporarily. The effect of this injection can last anywhere from three to six months, depending on various patient-specific factors such as the degree of wrinkling treated.

Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty surgery is the technical term for upper or lower lid surgery. This outpatient surgery is performed to combat the droopy upper lids that occur naturally due to the normal aging process. The surgery can also remove excess skin, remove or redistribute fat deposits, tighten skin, and give the eyes a more youthful and rested appearance. It can also alleviate issues with the upper lid partially obscuring vision when you look up.
